ElevArch

ElevArch is an innovative method for increasing clearance under masonry bridges, developed in collaboration by Freyssinet Ltd and Bill Harvey Associates Ltd.

ElevArch has:

  • Won the Outstanding Value category of the 2017 Structural Awards
  • Received a commendation in the Construction Innovation category of the 2017 Structural Awards
  • Won the grand prize in the UK and Ireland round of the VINCI 2017 Innovation Awards.

The method was successfully trialled at Moco Farm accommodation bridge in 2016. The bridge was lifted to a maximum of +900mm, then lowered again to a final position of +435mm and made good. The following series of models show the bridge before lifting, at +900mm, and one year after completion.

This is the bridge over the mothballed Varsity Line, now the East West Rail route, at Moco Farm. On October 26 2016 it was jacked to +900mm in the world first ElevArch trial. This model was build exclusively from photographs, and scaled by a span dimension.
